Roshi builds CLB-aligned assessments. You pick the benchmarks, Roshi drafts the tasks, and you edit the result like any other lesson. There are two ways in, and they look different, so start with the one that matches what you already have.

Which route to take

  • Starting empty: begin a new lesson and let Roshi generate both the material and the tasks from the benchmarks.

  • You already have the reading or listening material: put it in a lesson first, then add CLB tasks to it. This keeps the assessment tied to text you have already chosen.

Build from scratch

  1. On the Lessons page, click Create a new lesson.

  2. Roshi asks for a target level. Enter one, for example CLB 2, or click Skip for now.

  3. On Where would you like to start?, choose Generate a CLB Assessment.

  4. Roshi asks Do you already have source material? Click Generate from scratch.

  5. Choose your benchmarks, then review everything Roshi drafts.

Build from material you already have

  1. Create or open a lesson and get the source text in there. Type it, paste it, or use an import: Import text from a PDF, Import an article from the web, Import worksheet, Import a Youtube Video.

  2. Open Ask Roshi and choose Add CLB-based tasks.

  3. Fill in the assessment definition. Each row is one decision:

    • CLB Level, for example CLB 2.

    • Skill: Reading, Writing, Listening, or Speaking.

    • Competency Areas, for example Comprehending Information.

    • Competency Statements and Indicators of Ability, which Roshi fills in from the benchmark once you have chosen the level and skill. Read them, because they are what the tasks will be measured against.

    Use Add detail to add anything the benchmark does not cover.

  4. Under Outline content for Roshi to Generate, say what the tasks should cover, or click Ask Roshi to help add to outline and let it draft the outline from your material.

  5. Review each task Roshi produces and edit anything that does not fit your class.

Always review before you assess

Generated tasks are a strong first draft, not a marking-ready exam. Check these every time:

  • The task actually measures the benchmark you selected, not a nearby one.

  • The vocabulary is inside your learners' range.

  • The context is right for your learners. Rewrite names, places, and situations that will not land.

  • The answer key is correct. Read it, do not assume it.

To re-level tasks you have already generated, open CLB Assistant in the Ask Roshi panel and choose Modify with CLB. Roshi proposes a change plan with an Include checkbox on each item, so you approve the changes one at a time. See Adjust an existing lesson.

Reuse an assessment next term

Assessment templates are saved separately from lessons so the same structure can be run again on new material. Open Assessment Templates, where Template Editor builds a template and Saved Templates lists the ones you have kept. Opening a saved template returns you to the editor with its structure intact. You can also reach them from Lesson/Assessment Templates on the new-lesson screen.
